Welcome to Big Sur Softball!
For three decades, a very colorful and surprisingly competitive softball league has provided fun, entertainment and a sense of community for the residents of Big Sur, California. The rules of the league, though influenced by softball, have largely been determined by an unusual playing field. The "ballpark" lies on sunny flat alongside the Big Sur River within the boundaries of Pfeiffer-Big Sur State Park. Here, on Monday and Tuesday evenings from the beginning of May through the end of August, a host of locals and an occassional curious visitor gather to watch teams like the Outlaws, the Dogs and the Burritos renew rivalries.

2007 Big Sur Softball Champions
Big Sur softball is played with wood bats. Also, we play by Socko rules. Socko is a unique and exciting version of softball that apparantly was invented in Monterey about 50 years ago. By pitching to your own team and allowing batters only two pitches, the games move quickly. In Big Sur, Monterey and Pacific Grove, Socko is a big hit with players and fans. Outside of the area, almost nobody has ever heard of it. To learn more about Big Sur softball, you are invited to explore the links at the left ... Site last updated on 9/2/07 ©2007
